As I was sat with my cup of tea this morning watching the rain drop rivers running down the window my mind started to wander. My thoughts went here and there until I got to the thought “What has life taught me ? ” So I grabbed my notebook and started writing things down. What came to mind when I went back over my list was that life hadn’t taught me all these lessons most were taught to me by the people around me and I could easily name who wise words had taught me which lesson that I remembered from a single sentance. It was these same people who had influenced me throughout my life I just hadn’t realised how much.
What I realised was that who I was, was a collective result of all these people. It was the time, the love and the patience they gave to me even when I didn’t deserve it. My moral compass, my manners, my ethics, my passions and my loves (and maybe a few hates), even my personal qualities were gently instilled into me without having any of my individuality or my personal view and opinions taken away. These little phrases that I probably only half listened to at the time had gone straight to my heart and had prepared me for my future where life wasn’t always going far or easy and I didn’t know it.
I thought I would share with you some of the things my dearest and most wonderful family and friends have said to me. My favourite being something my beautiful Grandmother used to say to me before she died was ” Follow your heart, But take your brain with you”. I know find myself repeating it to the children in my life as they are growing up and spreading their wings. I get a few rolled eyes when I say it as they have probably heard me say it a million times but I just tell them it’s and Aunty thing and they just smile and laugh at me.
Have you got any wise words you live by, drop me a line below and let me know
Lots of love Berry xx
